About Me

My name is Charles Roop. I’m a meteorologist that worked in broadcast for nearly a decade and as a met for over six years.

“Why does it rain so much in summer afternoons?”

As a North Central Florida native, this question at the age of nine led me to eventually study the weather. I earned my certificate in Meteorology and Climatology at the University of Florida while earning a Bachelor of Science in Geography. I’m also a semester from a journalism degree.

I then studied meteorology at Mississippi State University as a graduate student. My thesis focused on the geographical location of tornadoes spawned by tropical cyclones in Florida. I earned my Masters in 2013.

Broadcasting wasn’t my initial desire, but I landed a job at WCTV, a CBS affiliate in Tallahassee, Fla, as a photojournalist. I eventually weaned my way into the weather team and became a meteorologist full time in January 2017.

I’m no longer in the broadcast or meteorology business. I’ve shifted into the IT world in 2023.

I still have a love and desire for the weather. I try to keep my skills sharp by forecasting when possible – especially for large and complex events. That’s what I hope to do with this blog.
